September skin reset

September is a good time to reset your skin

After a summer of holidays, warmer weather and more time outdoors, September often feels like a natural point to reset.

And your skin can be part of that too.

Even when you’ve been careful with SPF, summer can leave skin feeling a little different. You might notice pigmentation looks more visible, your tone feels less even, or your skin simply seems duller or more dehydrated than it did a few months ago.

That doesn’t mean your skin needs a dramatic overhaul.

For me, a September skin reset is much more about taking stock of what has changed, supporting skin quality and choosing treatments thoughtfully.

Different concerns need different approaches.

If pigmentation, uneven tone or dullness are the main concern, a chemical peel may be worth considering.

Chemical peels use carefully selected acids to support cell turnover and can help improve skin texture, clarity and uneven pigmentation. Modern peels don’t necessarily mean dramatic shedding either. The strength and type of peel should be chosen according to your skin, your concerns and what it can safely tolerate.

If texture, fine lines or overall skin quality are more of a focus, microneedling is another option I often discuss.

Microneedling works with the skin’s natural repair process to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Rather than creating an instant change, the aim is gradual improvement in areas such as texture, pores, fine lines and some types of scarring.

This is one of the reasons I think of treatments like microneedling as part of “collagen banking” - supporting the skin over time rather than waiting until there is something you feel you need to correct.

And if your skin feels particularly dehydrated, crepey or less resilient after summer, Profhilo may be another treatment to consider.

Profhilo is a skin-remodelling treatment rather than a filler. It uses hyaluronic acid to support hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality without being intended to change the shape of the face or add volume.

Again, the changes are designed to be gradual and subtle.

The important part is that these treatments are not interchangeable, and you certainly don’t need all of them simply because September has arrived.

A good skin plan should start with your skin - not a treatment menu.

A few reminders for your September skin reset:

Your skin may need time. Treatments that support collagen, hydration or skin quality generally work progressively rather than overnight.

The right option depends on your individual skin, medical history and concerns. A proper consultation and suitability assessment should come before treatment.

Every procedure has potential risks and side effects, so informed consent, realistic expectations and appropriate aftercare are just as important as the treatment itself.

And sometimes the most useful reset is simply getting the basics consistent again: good skincare, daily SPF and habits that support your general health as well as your skin.

September can be a lovely opportunity to refocus.

Not because your skin needs “fixing” after summer, but because it can be a good moment to understand what it needs now and make a calm, considered plan for the months ahead.

At Glow with Dr Hazel in Manchester, my approach is always to start with a consultation, understand your skin and your concerns, and consider which options may be appropriate for you - including when treatment may not be necessary at all.
