Botox is an injectable treatment made from botulinum toxin. It temporarily relaxes targeted muscles to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, most commonly on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes.

Botox blocks nerve signals to the muscles where it is injected which prevents them from contracting. This smooths out the skin and softens expression lines.

Common treatment areas include the forehead, frown lines and laughter lines (crow’s feet).

Results usually appear within 3 to 14 days and last around 3 to 6 months.

Common side effects include mild swelling, bruising or redness at the injection site. Less common side effects can include headache, drooping eyelids or temporary facial asymmetry.

Most people have Botox every 3–4 months. We advise waiting at least three months between treatments.
