Things you don’t need to apologise for: aesthetics edition

I’ve noticed that people sometimes come into an aesthetics consultation feeling as though they need to apologise for things that are completely reasonable.

For feeling nervous.

For not knowing exactly what treatment they want.

For having lots of questions.

Or even for feeling a little embarrassed about their skin.

But you don’t need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door.

In fact, that’s part of what an aesthetics consultation is for.

You might know that your skin has changed, but not understand why. You might feel that you look more tired than you feel, but have no idea what your options are. Or you might simply want to understand an aesthetic treatment better before deciding whether it’s right for you.

That’s what I’m here to help with.

You also don’t need to apologise for having a budget.

Aesthetic treatments are a personal choice and a financial commitment. Being open about what you’re comfortable spending helps us have a realistic conversation about your options.

It doesn’t mean choosing the cheapest treatment or compromising on safety. It means understanding your priorities and looking at what may be appropriate within them.

And you certainly don’t need to feel embarrassed about what your skin looks like.

As a GP and aesthetics doctor at Glow with Dr Hazel in Manchester, I’ve spent years looking after people with all sorts of skin concerns. Acne, pigmentation, scarring, texture, dryness or simply skin that doesn’t feel quite like it used to - these are things we can talk about openly and without judgement.

Sometimes the answer might involve a treatment.

Sometimes it might be skincare, lifestyle advice or giving your skin time.

And sometimes I may tell you that I don’t think you need treatment at all.

A few reminders if you’re considering aesthetics treatments:

You don’t need to apologise for feeling nervous.

You don’t need to know which treatment you want.

You don’t need to feel embarrassed about asking about risks. Aesthetic treatments are medical procedures, and understanding potential risks and limitations is an important part of making an informed decision.

You don’t need to apologise for having a budget.

You don’t need to feel embarrassed about what your skin looks like. That’s what I’m here to help with.

And you don’t need to apologise if, after talking everything through, you decide not to have treatment or simply change your mind.

A consultation shouldn’t be about convincing you to do something.

It should give you the space to talk honestly about your skin concerns, ask the questions you need to ask and understand what may or may not be suitable for you.

For me, good aesthetic medicine is about helping you make an informed choice, with safety, skin health and natural-looking results at the centre of the conversation.

If you’re considering aesthetic treatments but aren’t sure where to begin, you’re welcome to book a consultation at Glow with Dr Hazel in Manchester. We can start with a conversation about your skin, your concerns and what you’d like to understand better with no pressure to have treatment.
