Collagen starts declining earlier than you think…

Most people associate collagen loss with later in life, but in reality it begins much earlier often from your mid to late 20s.

Before that causes any concern, it’s important to understand that this is completely normal.

Collagen is the protein responsible for giving your skin its structure, firmness and resilience. From your 20s onwards, production gradually slows down year by year. Not suddenly or dramatically, but in a way that’s subtle and progressive.

Over time, this can show up as small changes  skin that feels a little less firm, a little less “bouncy” or that doesn’t recover quite as quickly as it once did.

This isn’t something that needs to be fixed. It’s something to be supported.

Because good skin health isn’t about reacting to changes once they appear, or trying to reverse them quickly. It’s about understanding what’s happening beneath the surface and responding in a way that is measured, appropriate and sustainable.

There’s a lot of conversation online around “preventative” treatments and while supporting collagen early can be helpful, that doesn’t mean doing everything at once or starting treatments before they’re truly needed.

What actually makes a difference is often much simpler and far less aggressive than people expect.

Consistent skincare, daily SPF and treatments that support your skin’s natural function rather than override it all play a role. This is what I often describe as collagen banking a gradual, long-term approach to maintaining skin quality over time.

Not by over-treating, but by working with your skin.

Because the goal isn’t to stop ageing. It’s to help your skin age well.

At Glow with Dr Hazel clinic in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, consultations are designed to assess your skin, your concerns and your goals before deciding what is genuinely appropriate for you.

If you’re interested in improving skin quality, supporting collagen or creating a long-term skin plan, book a consultation to discuss a natural, long-term skin plan.
